About The Position

CHI Health Good Samaritan, a 268-bed regional referral center established in 1924, is seeking a Radiation Therapist to administer radiation treatments under the direction of a radiation oncologist. This role involves daily patient record maintenance, performing simulations, creating custom blocks, and participating in equipment quality assurance. The therapist will care for patients of all ages with various malignant and benign diseases, requiring a balance of technical precision and emotional intelligence. Responsibilities include operating complex equipment like linear accelerators and CT scanners, building empathetic relationships with patients, greeting patients using AIDET, verifying patient identification, reviewing treatment parameters and physician prescriptions, informing patients and families about the treatment process, preparing patients for treatment, positioning equipment, taking portal films or IGRT scans, verifying radiation dosage, and monitoring patients throughout treatment.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of a JRCERT accredited Radiation Therapy Program
  • ARRT (T) boards completion within in 6 month of hire
  • BLS from the American Heart Association required upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Administer radiation treatments under the direction of a radiation oncologist.
  • Maintain daily records on each patient.
  • Perform simulations and make custom blocks.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance monitoring and quality control checks on the equipment.
  • Care for patients of all ages, with a variety of malignant and/or sometimes benign diseases.
  • Operate complex equipment like linear accelerators and CT scanners to administer life-saving cancer treatments.
  • Build long-term, empathetic relationships with patients.
  • Greet patient utilizing AIDET, verifies patient in identification, reviews chart for proper radiation treatment parameters and physician prescriptions.
  • Inform patients and families about the treatment process and answers questions.
  • Prepare patients for treatment.
  • Position equipment according to plan.
  • Take portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed.
  • Verify proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patient as prescribed by physician.
  • Monitor patient throughout treatment process by checking video monitors and intercom.
