About The Position

The Radiation Therapist reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values, follows its Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with applicable policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The role delivers radiation therapy treatments and simulations to patients at the NMH Cancer Center, following procedures for safe, accurate, high-quality, and compassionate care in accordance with the physician’s prescription. The therapist works cooperatively with other team members to ensure treatment procedures are delivered accurately and compassionately.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; equivalent includes a Radiologic Technologist with advanced training and board certification in Radiation Therapy.
• ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technology) certification.
• IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency) Medical Radiation Technology licensure.
• AHA Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
• At least 1 year of experience in Radiation Therapy.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and prepare patients for radiation therapy or simulations.
• Demonstrate knowledge of treatments and the use of pertinent equipment.
• Prepare supplies and equipment needed for patient positioning and treatment accuracy.
• Assess pain that interferes with treatment and contact a physician as appropriate for intervention.
• Room patients, provide direct patient care under physician supervision and/or at the direction of an RN/LPN, and record medical histories.
• Prepare patients for treatment while considering individual needs, age, and abilities, and administer care accordingly.
• Follow CDH Environment of Care policies and maintain infection-control standards in treatment and procedure rooms and other patient-care areas, including cleaning, disinfecting, and changing linens.
