Under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor, apply high quality radiation treatments to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. This role involves checking prescriptions, diagnoses, electronic charts, and patient identifications. It also includes explaining procedures to patients, preparing treatment rooms and equipment, safely transferring patients, performing imaging, and documenting all procedures according to office policy. The Radiation Therapist delivers prescribed radiation therapy under general supervision, maintains communication with patients, and observes radiation safety guidelines, including ALARA principles. Responsibilities also extend to preparing immobilization devices, performing simulations and treatment planning scans, assisting in dosimetry, attending chart rounds, performing daily quality assurance procedures, and reporting any equipment faults. The role also involves ensuring the safe handling of hazardous materials, submitting proper documents for billing, reviewing patient charges, and maintaining patient confidentiality. Additionally, the position requires participation in accreditations, special projects, and potentially policy development, while ensuring compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements and completing all mandated training and continuing education.
