Radiation therapists are healthcare professionals who deliver high doses of ionizing radiation to treat cancer and other pathologies under the prescription and supervision of a radiation oncologist. They acquire and analyze data in preparation for treatment, use imaging technology to localize treatment areas, participate in treatment planning, and carry out daily therapy procedures with precision and safety. As the primary liaison between patients and the radiation oncology team, radiation therapists maintain strong communication, provide ongoing patient assessment and monitoring, and support the emotional and physical needs of patients throughout multi-week treatment courses. They collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, dosimetrists, physicists, and other healthcare providers to ensure safe, accurate, and compassionate care.
