About The Position

Century Cancer Centers is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Radiation Therapist to join our premier Radiation Oncology team in Colorado Springs. As a direct patient care provider, you will play a vital role in administering prescribed courses of radiation therapy, ensuring the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and compassionate care for our patients .

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED and a one-year certificate from an ARRT-certified college or technical school in Radiation Therapy.
  • Certification: Must be certified by the ARRT and ASRT.
  • Licensure: Valid Colorado state license/certification as required.
  • BLS: Current BLS certification required (ACLS preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of six (6) months of related radiation oncology experience or equivalent training.
  • Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in EMR systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a focus on patient empathy.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment issues (laser alignment, gas levels, etc.).
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist in moving/positioning patients using proper body mechanics.
  • One (1) year certificate from college or technical school in Radiation Therapy certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (AART) and American Society of Radiologic Technologist (ASRT).
  • BLS certification required, ACLS preferred.
  • License and certification as required by state.
  • Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department.
  • Knowledge in healthcare systems operations such as EMR.
  • The RT must have at least six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of database management

Responsibilities

  • Treatment Administration: Accurately review and deliver daily prescribed radiation treatments at a pace consistent with patient scheduling.
  • Technical Precision: Set treatment unit parameters, obtain necessary port films, and utilize CT equipment as required.
  • Patient Monitoring: Maintain constant visual and audible communication with patients during treatment; monitor for reactions and report findings to the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Clinical Safety: Gathering and preparing setup devices and immobilization equipment while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Documentation: Ensure all medical records and treatment charges are accurate and complete within the EMR system.
  • Accurately and efficiently reviews and/or administers daily prescribed Radiation Therapy treatments to patients assigned to the treatment unit at a speed consistent with patient scheduling.
  • Observes and adheres to all department policies concerning Radiation Therapy treatment procedures.
  • Prepares room and equipment for patient by gathering all necessary equipment, supplies, and setup devices.
  • Sets appropriate treatment unit parameters.
  • Activates the treatment unit and delivers the prescribed dose of radiation.
  • Maintains visual and/or audible communication with the patient during treatment.
  • Obtains appropriate port films on patients when prescribed; makes adjustments in field placement as needed.
  • Throughout the course of Radiation Therapy, monitors patients for unusual reactions and events, and reports same to Clinical Director and Radiation Oncologist.
  • Keeps immobilization devices in a clean and orderly manner and utilize the devices as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
  • Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic procedures performed in the Radiation Oncology Department.
  • Possesses basic knowledge of Radiation Oncology equipment function to provide for minor repair and troubleshooting for problems; water and gas levels, laser alignment, etc.
  • Proficient in the utilization of all Radiation Oncology equipment in the department including CT(s).
  • Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in moving/lifting patients and equipment to prevent injury to patients and to self.
  • Applies safety principles in the performance of position responsibilities.
  • Records Radiation Oncology charges as procedures are performed.
  • Keeps records of machine down time and maintains machine fault list report.
  • Assists her Supervisor in placing and scheduling service calls.
  • Ensures proper hand off of responsibilities once their task is completed.
  • Ensuring that all medical records are accurate and complete within the system for all patients.
  • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
