About The Position

The Radiation Therapist I - Operations position at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center - Oncology: Radiation is a full-time role responsible for delivering and recording radiation therapy treatments under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist. This role involves close collaboration with the medical team for patient setup, treatment device selection, and verification. The therapist performs daily quality assurance on equipment, troubleshoots malfunctions, and maintains patient treatment parameters in electronic medical records. Additionally, they manage patient appointment schedules, ensure proper charge capture, and perform CT simulation, block cutting, and monitor unit calculations. The position also includes patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring the ability to provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development.

Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months.
Radiation Therapy (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 1 year.
Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiation Therapy or related field.
No experience required.
Knowledge of treatment planning and treatment techniques.
Knowledge of record and verify system, radiation oncology equipment and electronic medical record systems.
Knowledge and ability to learn and apply complex radiation therapy principles.
Ability to adapt to various instrumentation and adjusting techniques.
Competent with general radiation equipment.
Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of electronic health records.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, patients and their families.
Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

Delivers and records radiation therapy treatments under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist.
Works closely with the medical team to review images and port films for patient set ups, selection of treatment devices and verification.
Performs daily quality assurance (QA) on equipment prior to treatment.
Recognizes equipment malfunctions, troubleshoots, initiates appropriate corrective measures, and reports irregularities.
Enters and maintains patient treatment parameters in electronic medical records.
Maintains patient appointment schedule and ensures proper charge capture for treatments.
Performs conventional and computed tomography (CT) simulation in preparation for patient treatment; cuts blocks, makes custom immobilization, and completes monitor unit (MU) calculations in absence of Dosimetrist or Physicist.
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental policies and procedures.
