About The Position

The Radiation Effects Engineer I (Electrical Engineer I) supports RTX’s Radiation Effects Engineer section, which combines expertise in radiation effects and interactions in electronic devices and materials, radiation-environment transport and shielding, and associated models and tools. The role uses radiation-response testing, modeling, and test data to assess hardware designs against specifications and requirements. The engineer derives system radiation requirements from environment specifications, supports program design and system engineers, and develops and manages engineering and qualification radiation-testing efforts. The work includes radiation analysis and testing of electronic components, modeling radiation data, collaborating with suppliers, manufacturers, and cross-functional teams, and providing applications-engineering support to integrated product teams. The position is onsite in El Segundo, California, and requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM major obtained by the start date.
  • Experience with design and/or analysis of digital and analog circuits.
  • Experience with the MS Office tool suite.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing DoD Secret clearance is required after day one.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of semiconductor physics.
  • Proficiency with one or more radiation-transport tools, such as MCNP, GEANT, or NOVICE.
  • Proficiency in design and/or analysis of digital and analog circuits.
  • Proficiency in FPGA programming.
  • Hands-on ability to work with test equipment.
  • Experience as a Radiation Effects Engineer or in a similar position.
  • Ability to deliver quality results on time.
