Radar Fleet Operations Specialist, Radar Operations

Climavision
•$75,000 - $98,000•Remote

About The Position

Climavision is seeking its first dedicated Radar Fleet Operations Specialist to support the Sr. Radar Ops Manager and the technical team in maintaining the operational health of its growing radar fleet. This role serves as the first line of defense, utilizing documented procedures to monitor and troubleshoot routine issues. When issues fall outside these procedures, the specialist will escalate them to the SRE and DevOps teams to ensure high uptime and meet service level agreements as the fleet expands. The role offers hands-on training with weather-radar specifics and collaboration with experienced team members, rather than requiring prior radar expertise. With 32 radars currently in operation and more being added, there are ample opportunities to learn and contribute.

Requirements

  • A demonstrated track record of troubleshooting in a technical environment, such as electronics, RF systems, or IT/computer support. Radar-specific experience is not required.
  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience with electronics, RF, or a related technical discipline; this can be combined with broader professional experience in other fields.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail: this role runs on accurate records for parts, orders, sites, and incidents.
  • A self-starter who takes initiative and sees work that needs doing without being asked.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication for regular contact with vendors, contractors, and site hosts, primarily by phone and email.
  • Ability to work independently on routine tasks, following documented procedures, while knowing when to escalate to the Sr. Radar Ops Manager or technical team.
  • Availability beyond standard business hours as needed, including nights, weekends, and severe weather events; on-call coverage is shared informally today and typically runs under 25% a month.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with weather radar, NEXRAD, X-band, or dual-polarization systems.
  • High school diploma plus military technical training, a technical diploma, or bachelors degree in electronics or electrical engineering technology.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals and remote-access tools, and comfort with common test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, RF power meters, spectrum analyzers).
  • Comfort working in Linux and with tools like Jira and Excel for tracking and inventory.
  • Inventory, warehouse, or parts-management experience, including cycle counting and stocking-level analysis.
  • Purchasing, vendor management, or RMA process experience.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor radar equipment, data quality, and site telemetry in real time; identify and triage anomalies using documented procedures and report them to the Senior Radar Ops Manager and technical team before they become outages.
  • Work through documented troubleshooting procedures for routine transmitter, receiver, pedestal, power, networking, and environmental faults; escalate to the Manager, SREs, or DevOps when an issue falls outside those procedures.
  • Support root cause analysis on outages and recurring faults by documenting findings and feeding them into stocking levels, maintenance intervals, and site plans.
  • Document incidents clearly: write-ups, downtime records, and timely updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Support day-to-day contact with radar OEMs, component suppliers, tower crews, site hosts, ISPs, and field service contractors, primarily by phone and email.
  • Help schedule and coordinate site visits, preventive maintenance, and corrective repairs; confirm scope, access, and safety requirements.
  • Support the return material authorization (RMA) process: failure documentation, shipment tracking, and repair-return reconciliation.
  • Track vendor performance, turnaround times, and repeat failures and surface patterns to the team.
  • Prepare and track purchase requests for radar components, consumables, tooling, and site materials; follow orders through to delivery and receipt.
  • Help maintain accurate lead-time, pricing, and part-number records; identify alternates and second sources for long-lead or single-source components.
  • Support the company’s small spares depot in shipment coordination to field techs and host sites.
  • Track serialized assets, repair loops, and warranty status so the team always knows what is on the shelf, what is in repair, and what is deployed.
  • Support the identification and scoping of site improvements (power, grounding, HVAC, connectivity, drainage, physical security, and access), and help sequence them into a prioritized plan.
  • Support planning for equipment upgrades, refreshes, and end-of-life replacements as systems age; help build scopes, quotes, and schedules.
  • Help coordinate improvement work with site hosts and landowners, keeping agreements, permits, and access requirements in good order.
  • Help maintain accurate site documentation: as-built configurations, equipment lists, contacts, access instructions, and site history.
  • Requires occasional travel to radar sites (approximately 25% or less) and shared, informal on-call availability for evenings, weekends, and severe weather events.
