The Radiology Technologist Assistant transports and/or escorts patients to and from diagnostic testing areas. They assist technologists with patient positioning, prepping patients, and documenting information within the EMR. The Radiology Technologist Assistant Greets visitors/patients and facilitates meeting their needs and facility needs. They transport patients via appropriate mode of transportation to and from Imaging Services, assisting patients to ensure safe transfer between wheelchairs/stretchers and imaging equipment. They facilitate patient flow, help patients complete history sheets, and assist with positioning and prepping of patients. The role also involves managing electronic images, reviewing and printing images, and potentially entering data and retrieving office files. They may prep the patient by gaining appropriate IV access for the administration of saline and/or contrast. The assistant calls physician offices, notifies technologist/radiologist/physician of stat orders and changes, and receives and screens in-coming calls via telephone and patient call system, routing calls and taking messages as needed. They assist physicians with retrieving report information from the dictation system and assist with new employee orientation. Maintaining cleanliness and neatness of equipment, patient areas, and work areas is also a responsibility, along with ordering and stocking necessary supplies and linens, and assisting with office supply inventory. They troubleshoot equipment problems and communicate to appropriate personnel when service needs to be contacted. The assistant must comply with infection control, radiation safety, OSHA standards, and practice safe operation of all assigned equipment.
