About The Position

Oaklawn is seeking a talented individual to become a HISA (Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority) Coordinator. This role leads and provides oversight of Oaklawn’s racing integrity program to assure compliance with regulatory, policy, and safety requirements impacting the racing program. The ideal candidate will develop, revise, and monitor Oaklawn’s racing integrity plan, ensuring it is conducted at the highest standards. This position involves providing oversight and supervision of morning pre-race veterinary exams and Lasix administration, assisting the Association Veterinarian in the afternoon, and supporting Stewards and the Commission Veterinarian with out-of-competition and TCO2 testing. Additionally, the role assists the Director of Racing and Security Staff with inspections of jockeys, pony people, exercise riders, outriders, assistant starters, valets, and others. The Racing Integrity Officer also aids the Director of Racing and Stewards in investigating incidents resulting in equine injuries. The position requires maintaining an attitude and philosophy consistent with the company's Core Values and Standards of Behavior, punctual attendance, and the ability to work required overtime.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand for periods of time and work in inclement weather when necessary.
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Accredited stewards preferred.
  • Previous work with thoroughbred horses a must.
  • Previous racing experience.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arkansas Racing License.
  • While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to stand and walk for the majority of the shift.
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and must have the ability to stand, climb, push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and supervision of morning pre-race veterinary exams and Lasix administration.
  • Provide afternoon assistance to Association Veterinarian.
  • Assist the Stewards and the Commission Veterinarian with out-of-competition and TCO2 testing.
  • Assist the Director of Racing and Security Staff with regular inspections of jockeys and the jockeys’ rooms, pony people, exercise riders, outriders, assistant starters, valets and others.
  • Assist the Director of Racing and Stewards in the investigation of any incidents resulting in equine injuries.
  • Maintains an attitude & philosophy consistent with the company Core Values and Standards of Behavior with internal & external guests.
  • Punctual attendance required.
  • Ability to work required overtime.
  • Other duties as assigned.
