About The Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Horse Identifier is responsible for identifying each horse by means of a tattoo or microchip to confirm identity prior to racing. Ensure the safekeeping of registration certificates for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses stabled and/or racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Ensure the proper identification of each horse scheduled to compete or race at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Examine every starter in the Paddock for sex, color, markings, and lip tattoo, or other identification method approved by the appropriate breed registry [microchip] and the Commission for comparison with its registration certificate to verify the identity of each horse. Supervise the tattooing or other method of identification approved by the appropriate breed registry and the IHRC for identification of a horse located at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Report to the Stewards any horse not properly identified in conformity with IHRC rules. Qualifications A High School Diploma and College experience required. At least 3-5 years of experience in racetrack industry at a management level. Excellent verbal, mathematics, interpersonal, communication and writing skills. Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer recommendations, decision making, ability to make quick accurate decisions independently. Extensive equine knowledge, types of racing and all racing industry requirements. Must be at least 21 years of age or older and be able to obtain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission License. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a team member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job at a Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racing facility. Horseshoe Indianapolis is a smoking establishment, therefore must be able to work in a smoking environment. Must be able to work in a highly populated, fast-paced, and noisy environment. Must be able to work in an environment subject to cold and/or hot temperatures, rain, wind, sun, dust, animals, insects, etc.

Requirements
