The Horse Identifier is responsible for identifying each horse by means of a tattoo or microchip to confirm identity prior to racing. Ensure the safekeeping of registration certificates for Thoroughbred and Quarter Horses stabled and/or racing at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Ensure the proper identification of each horse scheduled to compete or race at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Examine every starter in the Paddock for sex, color, markings, and lip tattoo, or other identification method approved by the appropriate breed registry [microchip] and the Commission for comparison with its registration certificate to verify the identity of each horse. Supervise the tattooing or other method of identification approved by the appropriate breed registry and the IHRC for identification of a horse located at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Report to the Stewards any horse not properly identified in conformity with IHRC rules.
