About The Position

A Race Coach provides a positive, fun, and safe environment where athletes can build skills and confidence. The coach is responsible for athletes’ on-hill coaching experience and serves as an ambassador for Mohawk Mountain while in uniform. The role reports to the Manager of Snowsports.

Training includes SafeSport online modules, coaching fundamentals online modules, a pre-season online meeting about mountain policies and procedures, an in-person fall meeting to review season plans and make introductions, and eight hours of on-snow training in mountain safety and race skills and fundamentals. New hires shadow experienced coaches for their first two weekends. Course-setting training is optional.

Requirements

• Effectively communicate with customers.
• Ski at an advanced level.
• Hold required USSS credentials.
• Be able to work for extended periods outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be able to travel to away races.
• Be able to stand and work for extended periods.
• Work weekends and holidays.
• Be able to bend, lift, and ski with up to 50 pounds of gear.
• Own or rent appropriate ski gear.
• Have reliable transportation for inclement-weather circumstances.

Nice To Haves

• Racing experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coach athletes on the skills and tactics needed for ski racing.
• Teach skier etiquette and safe on-hill behavior.
• Serve as a friendly and helpful host to mountain guests.
• Assist with setting up and taking down race and practice equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Snowsports Manager or Head Coaches.
