About The Position

The Dow Chemical Company has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an R&D/TS&D Technician in the Adhesives segment, part of Dow Coating Materials (DCM) located in Collegeville, PA. DCM provides innovative raw material technologies that help advance the performance and sustainability of a broad portfolio of polymeric binders, dispersants, rheology modifiers, surfactants, defoamers, and wetting agents for a wide variety of end markets, including paints, traffic markings, industrial coatings, paper packaging, adhesives, metal packaging, and performance additives. Dow’s Acrylic Adhesives business delivers differentiated acrylic technologies that enable reliable bonding and functional performance across tapes, labels, textiles, non‑wovens, and specialty applications. Our portfolio includes advanced water‑based acrylic systems designed to meet demanding performance, processing, and sustainability requirements for customers worldwide.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School diploma (or equivalent) AND 3+ years of laboratory or manufacturing experience OR a minimum Associate’s degree in Process Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or similar technology related area.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
  • No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.
  • Laboratory Instrumentation: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Laboratory Safety: Apply safety protocols, hazard identification, and regulatory compliance.
  • Analytical Thinking: Evaluate complex problems, interpret data, and select solutions using scientific reasoning.
  • Technical Communication: Clearly convey technical information through reports, charts, and verbal updates.
  • Organizing, Planning, and Prioritizing Work: Structure tasks, manage time, and prioritize activities to meet project goals efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with analytical equipment, methodologies, and capabilities.
  • Experience analyzing and testing adhesives materials.
  • Strong prioritization, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word and Excel, ability to organize and summarize experimental data, and ability to learn new systems quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts and communicates effectively with Adhesives TS&D organization on customer projects and generation of strategic market-relevant data to drive new business development.
  • Conducts laboratory experiments independently, compiles and communicates results in a timely fashion, and contributes to discussions on next steps.
  • Handles complex laboratory tasks including methods and procedures and promptly communicates issues to enable or accelerate resolution.
  • Holds essential know-how on safe operation of small-scale and large-scale laboratory equipment and change management processes and implements these to Dow standards.
  • Responsible for calibration, safe operation, and routine maintenance of laboratory instrumentation, machinery, and systems.
  • Uses knowledge of the relevant technology consisting of products, test methods, industry standards, and testing equipment to efficiently complete projects.
  • Works with colleagues to define and implement new testing methods for development purposes which may require creating unique configurations of existing equipment or development/ fabrication of new equipment, test methodologies, or systems.
  • Documents laboratory findings in a timely and well-organized manner.
  • Interacts and communicates effectively with other groups and departments to streamline critical laboratory operations (e.g. sample shipping, analytical support, etc.).
  • Trains other work group members and contractors on specific work processes, equipment, and machinery.
