About The Position

Avery Dennison is seeking an R&D Technology Technician II/Analyst to join the Materials Group North America Innovation Center in Mentor, Ohio. In this role, the position will be within the Materials Science and Analytical group, which is responsible for developing, optimizing, and characterizing materials technologies worldwide. As an R&D Technology Technician II/Analyst, the selected candidate will conduct product performance testing, maintenance, and characterization to meet organizational needs for accelerated weathering testing, outdoor aging, analytical testing, and specific weathering-related projects for Graphics and Durables applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Forensic Sciences, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline preferred, with a minimum of 1-2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Solid understanding of basic math, science, and engineering principles, paired with excellent hands-on experimentation skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail, scientific curiosity, and a fast-learning mindset.
  • Well-organized service-oriented attitude with general computer skills (familiarity with Microsoft and other software) and the ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience operating and maintaining weathering and accelerated aging test equipment preferred, along with mechanical inclination and strong troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine tests related to accelerated aging and analytical tests including physical property measurements, spectroscopic (FTIR, UV-VIS), chromatographic (GC-MS, LC-MS, HPLC, GPC), optical and electron microscopy, and product performance testing under supervision.
  • Interface and collaborate with technical teams to help perform testing and provide results for further analysis.
  • Prepare samples, accurately collect data and record results, and finish test reports on various research and development projects following standard procedures.
  • Utilize ELN/LIMS systems, carefully curate reports, assist with the cogent population of databases, and assist in the development of SOPs.
  • Maintain lab equipment, troubleshoot and repair machinery in breakdown situations when necessary, and perform all scheduled internal maintenance according to the PM schedule while maintaining calibration records.
