About The Position

We are seeking an R&D Technician to support the hands-on fabrication, assembly, and testing of Synchron’s devices. This individual will work directly alongside engineers to build prototype and pre-production devices, prepare test samples, execute mechanical and functional test procedures, and maintain the lab infrastructure that supports the kit development program. This is a lab-based, detail-oriented role at the heart of device development. The successful candidate will bring strong manual dexterity, comfort with microscope-based assembly, and a disciplined approach to documentation.

  • 3+ years of experience as a technician in an R&D, manufacturing, or lab environment, ideally in medical devices
  • Strong manual dexterity and demonstrated skill with microscope-based assembly of small, delicate components
  • Experience with precision manual processes: soldering, adhesive dispensing, wire handling, and mechanical fastening at small scale
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and written work instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to documentation and traceability

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to mechanical testing equipment (Instron, force gauges, fatigue testers)
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 quality management systems and GDP/GMP practices

Responsibilities

  • Prepare test samples, fixtures, and anatomical bench models for device characterization
  • Operate lab equipment including force testers (Instron or equivalent), microscopes, laser micrometers, leak detectors, and environmental chambers
  • Record, organize, and report test data accurately; flag anomalies or deviations to the engineering team
  • Support simulated-use testing and bench model preparation design verification testing
  • Maintain clean and organized workspaces in accordance with clean-room, ESD, and contamination control protocols
  • Perform routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and upkeep of assembly tools and test instruments
  • Manage consumables inventory, raw material stock, and incoming inspection of purchased components
  • Operate and maintain specialized equipment such as ovens, laser welders, and polymer processing tools
  • Follow and provide feedback on assembly work instructions, test protocols, and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain lot traceability, serialization, and device history records (DHR) for all builds
  • Participate in non-conformance reporting, CAPA activities, and process improvement efforts as needed
  • Support first-article and incoming quality inspections for purchased materials and components
