About The Position

The R&D Technician II supports the development and pilot production of advanced ceramic materials used in semiconductor and defense applications. This role focuses on thermal processing operations, including furnace operation, binder burnout, and hot press processing used to manufacture ceramic components. The technician works closely with engineers to determine production runs, prepare tooling, and execute processing steps to produce high-quality ceramic parts. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately document process data while operating specialized equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 3 years related work experience or Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of related work experience.
  • Intermediate math and writing skills and basic statistics knowledge required.
  • Able to generate basic technical reports.
  • Understands basic ceramic science principles for materials related to assigned projects and contributes appropriate observations and offers solutions.
  • Possess the ability to use the computer system for basic departmental functions.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds.
  • Exhibits effective cooperation and communication skills to effectively work within a team environment.
  • Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times in work areas.
  • May be required to handle hazardous chemicals such as acids and solvents.
  • May be required to wear a respirator (a medical evaluation will be required prior to fitting).
  • May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a laboratory environment preferred.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance and troubleshooting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal processing of ceramic materials, including binder burnout and furnace operations.
  • Work with engineers to identify production runs and prepare parts for processing.
  • Load and monitor furnaces and hot press equipment during production cycles.
  • Build and configure tool sets used in thermal processing equipment.
  • Assist engineers with experimental runs and materials development activities.
  • Monitor process conditions and ensure equipment operates within defined parameters.
  • Record production and process data accurately, including operational details and test results.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues when necessary.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers and other technicians to support development projects.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environments while following safety procedures.
