About The Position

This role focuses on research and development in plant pathology, yield, and nutrition. The R&D Specialist II will identify and validate molecular targets, analyze plant properties, and study various biological sciences to discover new plant cultivars or agricultural methods. There is also a possibility to conduct research on insect neurochemistry and pheromones for pest control.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Strong horticultural production knowledge
  • Ability to independently design experiments and analyze data
  • Greenhouse/growth chamber experience
  • Ability to identify, communicate, track, and troubleshoot plant health variables
  • Proficiency with data analysis and visualization software

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree with minimum years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2+ years of relevant experience
  • High School Diploma with 10 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with other greenhouse and lab team members to deliver daily and weekly production targets under tight deadlines, identify opportunities for system or process improvements, operate automation, and perform experiments.
  • Have primary or shared responsibility for a specialized laboratory and controlled environment technology.
  • Prepare reports of an analytical and interpretative nature.
  • Train and may supervise others in specialized areas.
  • Interact with others within specialized areas.
  • Organize and put together reports.
  • Problem solve using original thinking and deductive reasoning of diverse procedures within specialized laboratory technology.
  • Conduct complex activities that require the application of specialized scientific techniques.
  • Take initiative to keep current with developments in specialized area.
  • Work closely with work teams and support functional spaces within the Plant Biology Hub.
  • Interact with all collaborating functional spaces within Plant Biotechnology as well as potential spaces within Crop Protection, Regulatory Science, and Breeding.
  • Potentially collaborate with external partners on system improvements.
