About The Position

JAMCO AMERICA, INC. is seeking an R&D Prototype Build Specialist Journeyman. This role is responsible for building R&D prototypes, mockups, and products under the direction of a shop supervisor. The position involves working with a diverse engineering and build team to support innovative product developments from concept through production. The specific level (I, II, etc.) is determined by years of experience and skill level in performing required tasks within the department, ranging from basic to complex duties.

  • Position may also require submission to periodic screening of driving records.
  • Moderate travel within the U.S. and abroad may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • The level of R&D Prototype Build Specialist (i.e.: I, II, etc.) is dependent upon years of experience and applicable skill level in performing required tasks inside the department from the most basic essential duties to the more complex duties as determined by management.
  • Level I: Under close supervision trains to assemble and rework units in a production environment. Utilizes visual aids, drawings, and oral/written instructions to assemble products. This is the entry level assembler position with no experience required.
  • Level II: Will perform a variety of moderately complex production assembly operations. Can read diagrams, drawings, and work orders. Will use diagrams/drawings/work orders along with oral/written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies with occasional supervision. Effectively uses a variety of hand tools or production equipment. Does basic troubleshooting and problem solve. Is cross trained in many of the area processes. Has a basic understanding of using BMS, BAC, JMS and other types of specifications? This is the intermediate level assembler position typically requiring 1 year of assembly experience.
  • Level Journeyman: Will perform a variety of moderate to complex production assembly operations with little to no supervision. Can read, understand, utilize diagrams, drawings, work orders, and oral/written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies. Proficient in the use of a variety of hand tools or production equipment. Is cross trained in many of the shop processes. Has an advanced knowledge and understanding of using BMS, BAC, JMS and other types of specifications? Is trained in all area processes. Maintains and consistently outputs a high level of quality/craftsmanship. Does basic troubleshooting and problem solving and works with Planners and Engineers to solve problems. This is the advanced level assembler position typically requiring 2 or more years of assembly experience.
  • Level Sr Journeyman: Meets all Level III requirements. Has in-depth knowledge of all jobs within the area and can fill in for other department personnel. Can, within reason, answer questions and advise other employees regarding job duties and expectations. Is able to perform basic training and monitoring of new employee performance. Has basic ability to plan, organize, and delegate work. Responsible for smaller jobs or projects. Maintains a high level of quality/craftsmanship. This is the senior level assembler position typically requiring 3 or more years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble/build R&D products including concept mockup, spatial mockup, functional prototype, test articles, and high-end show mockup.
  • Perform a variety of moderate to complex production assembly operations.
  • Utilize diagrams, drawings, 3D model-based definition (MBD), work orders, and oral and written instructions to assemble products and sub-assemblies.
  • Read and interpret 2D technical drawings as well as 3D MBD.
  • Use a variety of hand tools or production equipment and be cross-trained in many shop processes.
  • Apply advanced knowledge and understanding of BMS and BAC specifications, and other types of aerospace specifications.
  • Maintain a high level of quality/craftsmanship, perform basic troubleshooting and problem-solving, and collaborate with Planners and Engineers to resolve issues.
  • Operate tools and machines such as band saw, disk sander, rivet gun, router, drills, 3D printer, 4-axis CNC, power supplies, and various hand tools, working with materials including steel, aluminum, wood, plastics, adhesives, laminates, composite fiberglass/resins, and various rapid prototype materials.
  • Foster a team-oriented culture with production/procurement personnel to achieve effective workflow and high product quality.
  • Foster a cohesive team environment that builds confidence, morale, and a strong sense of team, empowering employees to recognize their role in achieving high quality workmanship.
  • Develop effective and supportive working relationships with mechanics/Engineers, building mutual respect by asking questions and listening.
  • Analyze and resolve problems in the build flow to ensure optimum efficiency.
  • Identify and recommend measures to optimize production methods, shop efficiency, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Keep the shop clean and organized.
  • Control and maintain an optimal combination of tools to facilitate rapid prototype builds, including a wide range of tools for any situation and tools commonly used by Jamco on seats.
  • Inform the R&D Operation Supervisor of any tool needs.
  • Maintain a simplified R&D inventory and inspection process with appropriate documentation and control.
  • Inspect products during builds and consult with engineers to ensure quality and definition are adequately defined for the build.
  • Maintain a build schedule based on build scope and BOM, tracking daily/weekly status to show build progress and drive demand dates for design and suppliers.
