About The Position

The Principal Embedded Systems Engineer will lead a small R&D team in Boise to produce an industry leading Mobile Robotic solution for the Material Handling Industry. They will utilize the latest technologies to integrate robotics into material handling systems for complex applications. This includes R&D and prototype development to successfully bring new products to market. The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives and developing engineered solutions to meet these goals. Technologies used in this position include high level automation, 2D and 3D machine vision, optical devices, specialty conveyors, robotics, end of arm tooling, 3D modeling, and simulation. The Principal Embedded Systems Engineer will provide detailed designs for special equipment in the material handling industry. The process involves understanding the customer's goals and objectives and developing engineered solutions to meet these goals. The Principal Embedded Systems engineer will be capable of executing all phases of a controls project including: concept and research, component selection, network design, panel design, ACAD layout, device troubleshooting, PLC/PC control programming, HMI development, and general support for the Bastian team. The Principal Embedded Systems Engineer will cross-train as required in robotic programming.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of controls experience on highly automated projects.
  • 1+ years of experience leading people in a fast paced environment.
  • Bachelor of Electrical or Computer engineering with an emphasis in Robotics and/or controls
  • PLC/PC control experience, panel design experience, hands on and mechanical capabilities, controls project managing experience
  • Experience with machine vision and material handling.
  • Aptitude for Hands on Electrical and Mechanical troubleshooting
  • Extremely computer literate with MS Office products
  • Excellent problem solving and time management skills
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA long term without sponsorship.
  • Employees must follow all information security policies, protect confidential data, complete required training, and report any suspected security incidents to support our information security controls.

Responsibilities

  • Track projects and report progress and issues to the Chief Innovations Officer, Engineering Manager, and Program Manager, as required.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers and help create a culture of career growth, personal success, and Fun at Work.
  • Track embedded systems team members progress and make suggestions, where necessary, to help them meet their year-end goals.
  • Conduct full scope of embedded Systems project services as outlined in the overview above
  • Assist Robotic and Mechanical Engineering on project design
  • Deliver successful controls projects with regards to customer satisfaction, schedule, time, and budget
  • Help resolve engineering issues as they arise by working closely with the engineering team, vendors, and the shop
  • Ensure we meet and exceed our customer's expectations through superior design and implementation
  • Complete all administrative tasks/paperwork in timely manner
  • Work with management to prioritize projects on macro level; ability to prioritize individual tasks on your own
  • Work with management to develop process standards within the department
  • Attend training and become certified in applicable controls technologies or programs
