About The Position

The R&D Power Electronics Electrical Engineering Intern will work at Keysight’s Electronic Industrial Solutions Group in Loveland, Colorado, a site focused on designing and testing power supply solutions. Products include multi-kilowatt switching supplies, AC sources, 30 kW regenerative power solutions, solar array simulators, and AC grid emulators up to 1 MW. Working with a mentor, the intern will contribute to hardware-based designs for new programmable power supplies. The role offers the opportunity to use advanced measurement, simulation, and AI tools while learning from experienced staff. The work is suited to a student interested in power electronics, switching converter design, analog design, control systems, digital signal processing, and embedded programming.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Be enrolled in an accredited college or university as of September 2027.
  • Be able to work daily on-site in Loveland, Colorado.
  • Have completed at least one undergraduate course in power electronics or control systems.
  • Have a strong foundational skill set in continuous and discrete signals and systems.
  • Have analog design skills, including experience with time- and frequency-domain measurements.
  • Be familiar with power supplies and electronic measurement devices.
  • Have strong Python programming skills and be able to write clear, efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code.
  • Applicants graduating before September 2027 are not considered unless they are entering or applying to an MS or PhD program after graduating.
  • Candidates who require employment visa sponsorship now or in the future may not be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028 is preferred.
  • Exposure to power electronics and switching converter design related to power supply design and regenerative grid technologies.
  • Exposure to analog control design through dedicated coursework; digital control design experience is a plus.
  • Course exposure to digital signal processing (DSP), ideally with HDL skills.
  • Ability to model systems in Matlab and circuit simulator tools such as Saber.
  • Experience coding, simulating, testing, and debugging HDL designs.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a mentor on hardware-based designs for new Keysight programmable power supplies.
  • Use measurement, simulation, and AI tools in the design work.
  • Collaborate across design domains, including firmware, gateware, and analog and digital hardware interfaces.
