About The Position

The R&D Prototype Machinist independently programs, sets up, and operates CNC and manual machining equipment to manufacture prototypes, test samples, tooling, fixtures, and development components. This position works closely with engineers to support product development, prototype evaluation, testing, and manufacturing improvement activities.

Requirements

Minimum 5 years of machining experience in a prototype, toolroom, or R&D environment.
Demonstrated ability to independently program, set up, and operate CNC equipment.
Strong proficiency with manual machining equipment.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and tolerances.
Experience fabricating prototypes, tooling, fixtures, and low-volume components.
Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced development environment.

Responsibilities

Program, set up, and operate CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
Operate manual mills, lathes, saws, drill presses, grinders, and related shop equipment.
Fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble prototype parts, tooling, fixtures, and test equipment.
Determine machining methods, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing processes required to produce prototype components.
Prepare test samples, cables, assemblies, and hardware for engineering and qualification testing.
Build, modify, and support test fixtures and test setups.
Assist with product testing, troubleshooting, data collection, and prototype improvements.
Work directly with engineers to develop, evaluate, and refine product designs.
Inspect work using precision measuring instruments and verify compliance with specifications.
Maintain equipment and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
Provide machining, fabrication, and technical support to Manufacturing as needed.
Perform other related duties supporting R&D and Manufacturing operations.
