About The Position

CWI Works is recruiting an R&D IT Technical Support professional through the Forest Service Experienced Services (FS-ACES) Program. Administered through a grant, the program gives experienced professionals an opportunity to support the mission and operations of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Forest Service. This position provides technical assistance for the Forest Service Research and Development organization’s information technology governance and portfolio management efforts. The individual will work closely with the executive sponsor, business lead, Research Information Technology Oversight Team (RIOT), Integrated Investment Team, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 55 years old
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Hold a BA or BS degree
  • At least 20 years of relevant experience in a related field
  • Professional or expert-level experience in the R&D IT field

Responsibilities

  • Provides portfolio expertise to clarify and apply IT governance requirements, ensuring that R&D acquisition, property management, and G&A activities are appropriately scoped and managed.
  • Collaborates directly with CIO representatives to streamline processes, reduce unnecessary governance burden, and support consistent planning and execution of the R&D IT portfolio.
  • Serves as a portfolio advisor on R&D IT requirements, helping to develop and mature the R&D IT portfolio and promote cost-effective, enterprise-level solutions where possible.
  • Helps promote effective communications between the FS R&D community and the CIO office.
  • In coordination with RIOT and R&D leadership, provides portfolio advice and coordination in response to inquiries from Agency leadership, Department OCIO leadership, OMB, and Congress regarding R&D IT investments and portfolio maturity.
  • Serves as a portfolio advisor for both new and ongoing operational and maintenance IT initiatives (such as cloud and high-performance computing services, and Discovery Network/Internet2 connectivity at the Missoula Fire Lab and Forest Products Lab) to ensure R&D requirements are clearly defined and coordinated with the CIO.
  • Supports the development and execution of Operational Level Agreements (OLA) and Service Level Agreements (SLA) that formally define roles and responsibilities between R&D and the CIO organization.
