About The Position

We are seeking an R&D Experimental Engineer / Scientist to develop next-generation EUV source technologies—from early-stage concept evaluation through prototype development—and to enhance the performance of current EUV systems. This role involves hands-on experimental work, including the design and execution of experiments, development of proof-of-concept hardware, and use of advanced characterization techniques. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in experimental physics or a related field (e.g., plasma systems, advanced materials processing such as CVD, or similar technologies), along with a practical mindset toward system development. The Engineer / Scientist will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to evaluate new technologies, analyze results, and mature concepts into prototype-ready systems with consideration for performance, reliability, and serviceability.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Physics or a related field, or M.S. with significant relevant experience
  • 5+ years of post-graduate academic or industrial R&D experience
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and executing complex experiments
  • Experience working with electronic circuits and characterization instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems, sensors)
  • Background in plasma systems or related fields (e.g., CVD, high-energy systems, advanced materials processing, vacuum-based systems)
  • Experience with vacuum systems (pumps, valves, MFCs)
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Octave)
  • Familiarity with power electronics and high-voltage systems
  • Working knowledge of optics and optical physics
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical content to groups
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to ~10%)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience assembling, modifying, and operating advanced characterization systems (e.g., beamlines, spectrometers, imaging systems, x-ray/UV optics, photodiodes)
  • Deep understanding of plasma generation, control, and diagnostic techniques
  • Experience with simulations (e.g., gas transport, thermo-mechanical analysis)
  • Product development experience, including transitioning concepts to prototype systems

Responsibilities

  • Develop next-generation EUV source technologies from early-stage concept through prototype development
  • Experimentally evaluate candidate technologies using a range of characterization methods (plasma, optical, electrical, thermal, and gas diagnostics)
  • Design, build, and operate proof-of-concept hardware and experimental setups, including R&D EUV sources and beamline systems
  • Plan and execute experiments; analyze and interpret data to guide design decisions and technology development
  • Collaborate with theoretical and experimental teams to compare results with models and refine experimental approaches
  • Advance technologies to a level suitable for prototype system builds
  • Improve performance of current-generation EUV sources and expand their application space
  • Communicate technical findings effectively through presentations, reports, and cross-functional discussions

Benefits

  • The compensation salary range for this role is $113,000 to $121,000.
