The R&D Engineer I – Patient Screening role is crucial as the technical gatekeeper for clinical trial enrollment. This position involves applying engineering principles to analyze patient anatomy via CT imaging to ensure a precise and perfect fit between the patient and the company's structural heart technology. Every team member plays a critical role in redefining possibilities for patients and bringing life-changing care closer to reality.

Requirements

  • Required a B.S. in Biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • 0 to 3 years in med-device R&D, Quality, or Clinical Ops.
  • Basic knowledge of structural heart anatomy.
  • Understanding of digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) standards and Computed Tomography (CT) fundamentals.
  • Proficient in anatomical modeling and 3D imaging software (e.g., Materialise Mimics, 3mensio, or TeraRecon).
  • Proficient computer skills that include standard computer applications (word processing, database management, spreadsheets, etc).
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Imaging Analysis: Perform precise 2D and 3D reconstructions of patient CT scans (DICOM data) using specialized imaging software.
  • Anatomical Measurement: Execute standardized measurement protocols for cardiac structures to determine eligibility based on strict clinical trial inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Reporting: Generate clean, data-driven screening reports for the Clinical and R&D teams, highlighting potential anatomical risks or "screen-fail" justifications.
  • Data Integrity: Maintain the screening database with high accuracy to ensure all regulatory and quality compliance standards are met.
  • Model Design and Manufacturing: Design anatomical heart models from DICOM reconstructions and 3D print the models to support case preparation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
