R&D Engineer Apprentice
About The Position
The Research & Development Engineer Apprentice supports engineering and testing activities while developing the technical skills required to progress into a full R&D Engineer role. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, this role is designed for individuals who are self-motivated, solution-oriented, and eager to grow their skillset in a hands-on aerospace environment. The Apprentice will work closely with engineers and technicians to support prototype development, testing, and process improvement while building proficiency in engineering concepts and problem-solving techniques, with a clear path to advancement.
Requirements
- Basic understanding of mechanical or engineering concepts
- Familiarity with materials, tools, and manufacturing processes (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Exposure to or willingness to learn data acquisition and process control systems
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of relevant hands-on or technical experience preferred (mechanical, fabrication, maintenance, etc.)
- Experience may include automotive, aircraft, machining, welding, fabrication, motorsports, agriculture, or similar fields
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, reliability, and willingness to learn required
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field is a plus but not required
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development of new processes, technologies, and products under guidance of senior engineers
- Support prototype builds, test samples, and conceptual process development
- Assist with troubleshooting issues related to processes, equipment, and testing
- Help prepare test plans, procedures, and reports with direction from senior team members
- Learn and apply knowledge of materials, processes, and equipment for production integration
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, test plans, and reports
- Support R&D Engineers and Technicians in daily project and testing activities
- Participate in team, customer, and project meetings as required
- Follow safety protocols and maintain proper use of equipment in all environments
- Manage multiple tasks while developing time management and prioritization skills
