R&D Engineer 2

Keysight Technologies, Inc.Santa Rosa, CA
$93,050 - $155,080

About The Position

As part of the High Frequency Measurement Center of Excellence (COE) organization, you will work with engineers around the world to design and deliver industry‑leading network analyzer hardware that enables our customers to push the boundaries of RF, microwave, and millimeter‑wave technology. You will be a member of a multidisciplinary R&D team responsible for the design, integration, and validation of analog, RF, and mixed‑signal circuits used in Keysight’s network analyzer platforms. This role provides hands‑on exposure to real products, close collaboration with system, firmware, and manufacturing teams, and the opportunity to grow into a technical expert in precision RF measurement instrumentation. Keysight’s network analyzer products hold leading market positions and are widely used in aerospace, defense, wireless communications, semiconductor, and research applications. We are not only invested in engineering excellence—we are invested in people, learning, and long‑term career growth.

Requirements

  • MS degree (or PhD in progress) in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related field (new or recent graduates encouraged to apply).
  • Academic or project experience in analog and RF circuit design.
  • Fundamental understanding of: RF and microwave concepts (S‑parameters, matching, gain, noise, linearity)
  • Fundamental understanding of: Analog circuit blocks (amplifiers, filters, mixers, biasing networks)
  • Familiarity with circuit simulation tools (e.g., ADS, SPICE, Spectre, or equivalent).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team‑based, global development environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands‑on lab experience with RF measurement equipment, especially network analyzers.
  • Exposure to microcircuit or module‑level design and high‑frequency PCB layout considerations.
  • Coursework or projects related to microwave, millimeter‑wave, or high‑speed analog design.
  • Familiarity with signal integrity, power integrity, or low‑noise design techniques.
  • Internship or co‑op experience in hardware or RF engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and development of analog, RF, and mixed‑signal circuits for network analyzer subsystems (e.g., sources, receivers, IF chains, reference and clock distribution).
  • Participate in microcircuit and PCB design, including schematic capture, component selection, layout review, and design trade‑off analysis.
  • Support system‑level integration of RF and analog hardware, working closely with system architects and firmware/software engineers.
  • Perform circuit simulation and analysis (e.g., gain, noise figure, linearity, phase noise, stability).
  • Bring up and debug hardware using lab equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and power meters.
  • Support design verification, characterization, and qualification testing, including documentation of results.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and cross‑site project meetings.
  • Document designs, test methods, and engineering decisions clearly and concisely.
  • Learn and apply Keysight development processes, quality standards, and product lifecycle practices.

Benefits

  • Keysight is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
