About The Position

Rain Carbon Inc. (RAIN), a global leader in upcycling industrial byproducts into high-value carbon materials, has established a new RAIN Innovation Center for Energy Storage Materials in Hamilton, ON, Canada. This R&D center, spanning approximately 30,000 sq.ft., includes a demonstration facility for pilot-scale processing of carbon and carbon precursor materials, and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art analytical and electrochemical testing equipment for carbon material analysis. The center will focus on testing and application development of RAIN’s LIONCOAT® thermoplastic precursor products for battery anode materials, and support the development of new energy storage material solutions using natural and synthetic graphite, and silicon-carbon composites for lithium-ion batteries. It will also house innovations for carbonaceous materials for emerging energy storage technologies like solid-state batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and hydrogen fuel cells. The purpose of this role is to support daily R&D operations by designing, developing, and optimizing advanced carbon materials from various sustainable precursors for energy storage systems. The scientist will develop and analyze new carbon solutions, bridging research and manufacturing by focusing on precursor selection, carbon structure engineering, and graphitization to produce high-performance, scalable, and sustainable Battery Anode Materials (BAM). This role also supports the transfer of carbon product solutions into industrially viable products, aligning with the company's mission to advance next-generation energy storage technologies.
