This Quota Monitoring Biologist position is part of the License and Statistics section within the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF) and operates under the North Carolina Trip Ticket Program. The role serves as the lead biologist for commercial fishery quota monitoring, responsible for maintaining and implementing data quality controls and verification for quota monitoring and trip tickets. This position will also act as the primary liaison between NCDMF and seafood dealers utilizing the VESL On-Line Reporting Program for trip ticket data submission. Additionally, the position involves supervising an assistant quota monitoring biologist, researching future funding opportunities for quota monitoring, and training port agents and seafood dealers on the VESL program. Responsibilities include setting up VESL accounts, handling customer service inquiries, resolving data import issues, and entering data into the eel pot monitoring database. The role also requires conducting analyses of trip ticket and quota monitoring data, fulfilling data requests from various stakeholders, reviewing and writing reports and correspondence, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for establishing effective working relationships.
