About The Position

The Quantum Topological Research Scientist – Technology Architecture is a senior technical leadership role within GF Labs responsible for advancing topological quantum computing technologies from fundamental concepts to scalable semiconductor platforms. This role combines deep expertise in materials, device physics, and integration with hands-on technical engagement in experiments, simulations, and early hardware development. The position influences internal roadmaps and external research while working closely with engineering teams and partners to mature topological quantum technologies into manufacturable solutions. As a PMTS, this role works closely with foundry customers to define the long-term technology architecture for topological qubit platforms while remaining actively engaged in experimental, modeling, and prototype activities. The position spans quantum materials, device physics, integration, and cryogenic systems, translating emerging concepts into scalable semiconductor solutions. This individual serves as a technical authority internally and externally to shape roadmaps, guide investments, and deliver high-impact quantum technologies.

Requirements

  • MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Applied Physics
  • 12+ years of experience in quantum devices, semiconductor technologies, or advanced research
  • Deep expertise in topological, superconducting, and quantum system architectures
  • Experience with cryogenic device physics and measurement environments
  • Demonstrated impact on technical strategy, research direction, and roadmaps.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive long-term technology roadmaps for topological qubits, including materials, device architectures, and integration strategies
  • Lead development of topological quantum devices, with direct involvement in experiments, simulations, and prototype evaluation
  • Work closely with device, integration, process, AME, PDK, and test teams to translate concepts into scalable semiconductor architectures
  • Guide R&D of advanced materials, including III‑V heterostructures, epitaxy, superconductors, and topological material systems
  • Contribute to experimental design, data analysis, and failure learning cycles for quantum devices
  • Define system architectures linking qubits with cryogenic control and read-out electronics
  • Drive modeling and validation strategies to improve coherence, performance, manufacturability, and scalability
  • Translate device innovations into semiconductor-compatible integration approaches (BEOL, superconducting wiring, heterogeneous integration)
  • Establish technical benchmarks, requirements, and success metrics aligned with internal and partner programs
  • Serve as primary technical interface with customers and research partners to shape joint development efforts
  • Lead and contribute to external collaborations, funded programs, and research proposals
  • Communicate technical strategy, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and multidisciplinary teams
  • Mentor engineers and establish technical standards across topological quantum R&D
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
