Quantum R&D Engineer Intern
About The Position
The Quantum Engineering Solution (QES) team at Keysight develops measurement solutions for quantum technologies, including quantum computing, communications, and sensing. The intern will develop and evaluate techniques for characterizing the electrical properties of quantum devices used in quantum computing, with the goal of supporting repeatable and reliable device manufacturing. The role provides access to high-performance instrumentation and involves creating measurement strategies and Python workflows that demonstrate automated measurements through software programming interfaces. The work will contribute to QES’s approach to quantum test and measurement solutions. The successful candidate is curious and creative, interested in quantum engineering, and able to take initiative, work independently, collaborate, and seek guidance when needed. Prior measurement-equipment experience is not required; the candidate will work alongside a team of experts.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience programming in Python, including writing scripts for data collection, analysis, and automation.
- Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
- Willingness to quickly learn new technologies and communicate technical concepts clearly.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with quantum computing or other quantum technologies.
- Experience programming test instrumentation using PyVisa or a similar API.
- Portfolio or examples of relevant work or academic projects.
Responsibilities
- Develop measurement techniques on quantum devices using a parametric analyzer.
- Create Python scripts to automate measurements and demonstrate repeatability.
- Collaborate with QES physicists to identify measurement challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Present findings and alternative approaches to the team, and incorporate feedback to refine measurement techniques and automation workflows.
