Staff / Senior Staff, Quantitative UX Researcher

Paramount•Burbank, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

As a member of Paramount’s Streaming Research and Insights team, the Quantitative UX Researcher leads technically rigorous UX research with a quantitative focus across Pluto TV and Paramount+. The work shapes product, design, and algorithm strategy to improve streaming experiences. Reporting to the SVP, Streaming Research and Insights, this individual contributor sets research strategy and methodology with significant self-directed judgment, partners with senior product, engineering, and data science leaders on roadmap and resourcing decisions, and provides technical mentorship. The position has no direct reports and works in an office environment. New York or Burbank are preferred locations; the final location will be confirmed. The role owns research roadmaps for assigned product areas, leads quantitative and causal-inference research, evaluates recommendation algorithms and AI/ML product systems, applies modeling and AI-supported analysis, and conducts complementary qualitative and usability research. It translates complex findings into actionable recommendations for senior and executive stakeholders and helps shape product and technical roadmaps.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in quantitative UX research, experimentation, or applied data science at a consumer technology, streaming, or digital product company.
  • Proven record of leading complex research programs relying on statistical analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong background in experimental design and causal inference, including multivariate testing and quasi-experimental methods.
  • Strong statistical skills and ability to validate and defend results to executives; ability to collaborate with an A/B testing team.
  • Technical proficiency in SQL and Python or R.
  • Hands-on experience applying AI/ML modeling techniques, such as predictive modeling, natural language processing, or recommendation-system evaluation, to research problems.
  • Demonstrated experience evaluating and improving algorithmic systems in direct partnership with engineering and data science teams.
  • Experience with recommendation or personalization engines.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous questions into quantitative research plans.
  • Ability to define scope, execute research, and defend methodology with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent executive communication and storytelling skills, including translating complex statistical and technical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent research and experimentation streams amid shifting priorities in a fast-paced, evolving office environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree, such as a master’s or PhD, strongly preferred, particularly a PhD in Statistics, Data Science, HCI, or a related quantitative or behavioral science field.
  • Experience with recommendation systems at scale, ranking algorithms, or generative AI and large language model evaluation.
  • Awareness of streaming media, entertainment, or subscription and advertising-supported business models.
  • Experience building or scaling a research or experimentation function, including tooling, panels, or infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quantitative research and causal inference using multivariate testing, quasi-experimental methods, and statistical modeling.
  • Measure product performance, team collaboration, and customer satisfaction, and identify opportunities to improve them.
  • Partner with the A/B testing team to use experiment results and testing infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and improve recommendation algorithms and other AI/ML product systems in partnership with engineering and data science; validate model outputs, identify failure modes, and quantify user impact.
  • Own the research roadmap for an assigned product area and work with product, design, engineering, and business stakeholders to set priorities and develop a forward-looking plan combining quantitative and mixed-methods research.
  • Report research progress and priorities to the SVP, Streaming Research and Insights.
  • Apply AI modeling and analysis techniques, including predictive modeling, machine-learning-supported analysis, and AI-assisted synthesis of qualitative data.
  • Lead interviews, usability testing, and diary studies to explain quantitative and behavioral signals and understand user needs.
  • Translate complex findings into clear recommendations for senior product, engineering, data science, and executive stakeholders.
  • Shape product and technical roadmaps.
  • Provide technical mentorship on experimental design, statistical rigor, and research best practices.

Benefits

  • Attractive compensation and comprehensive benefits packages.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Opportunities for on-site and virtual engagement events.
  • Opportunities to make meaningful connections and build a vibrant community inside and outside the workplace.
