About The Position

Z1 Tech is launching a new proprietary quantitative trading initiative and is seeking an entrepreneurial Quantitative Trader / Researcher to design, build, and deploy automated, systematic intraday trading strategies. As an early hire for this initiative, you will work closely with the CEO on this zero-to-one project and have end-to-end ownership, from data analysis and alpha generation to execution logic. This is a greenfield opportunity ideal for a quant who wants to avoid corporate bureaucracy and see their models deployed directly to live markets with a highly competitive layout. Applicants MUST reside in Vancouver.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience as a Quantitative Researcher, Trader, or Developer within a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, or market-making desk.
  • Deep understanding of market microstructure, order book dynamics, and derivative pricing/greeks.
  • Strong programming skills in Python (for research, data analysis, and backtesting) and familiarity with C++ or modern backend languages for low-latency execution.
  • Advanced degree (Master's/PhD or equivalent practical mastery) in a quantitative field: Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering.
  • Entrepreneurial, self-directed, and execution-oriented mindset.
  • Must reside in Vancouver.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with SPX, index options, or ultra-short-term momentum strategies is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Strategy Development: Design, backtest, and implement systematic, high-frequency/intraday scalping strategies, with a core focus on highly liquid index derivatives (e.g., SPX options/futures).
  • Execution Optimization: Develop and refine automated execution algorithms to minimize slippage and optimize fill rates in fast-moving market environments.
  • Infrastructure Collaboration: Work closely with engineering to build out robust, low-latency backtesting pipelines and live trading infrastructure.
  • Risk Management: Design embedded risk management frameworks, position-sizing models, and real-time monitoring tools.
