About The Position

Citi's Markets Quantitative Analytics (MQA) team is looking for a Quantitative Analyst to develop and deliver advanced pricing models and risk analytics for our front office Commodities desk in Houston. In this role, you will apply cutting-edge mathematical and computational techniques to solve complex problems across commodity derivatives, working directly with trading, sales, and structuring teams to drive real business outcomes. This is a high-impact technical position at the heart of one of the world's leading financial institutions, offering the scale, complexity, and collaboration needed to make a meaningful contribution to global markets.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative discipline such as Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or an equivalent field.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python, with demonstrated experience building robust, production-grade quantitative libraries and analytics applications.
  • Strong theoretical and applied foundation in probability, statistics, and market data analysis, with the ability to apply these rigorously to complex financial instruments.
  • Ability to derive and solve analytical equations and construct numerical schemes for pricing and analysing intricate financial contracts.
  • Solid knowledge of software design principles, with a track record of writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code in a professional environment.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, with the ability to present complex quantitative concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
  • Prior experience in a quantitative modelling or analytics role, with exposure to financial markets or a strong desire to apply quantitative skills in a markets context.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with commodities markets, including knowledge of commodity derivatives products and the dynamics that drive pricing and risk in this asset class.
  • Experience working in or closely with a front office environment, with an understanding of how quantitative models integrate with trading workflows.
  • Exposure to JavaScript or React development in a quantitative or financial technology context.

Responsibilities

  • Build and enhance analytics libraries that support the accurate pricing and risk management of commodity derivatives across the front office trading book.
  • Design and implement quantitative models for commodity products, applying techniques spanning advanced calculus, mathematical finance, statistical methods, and numerical analysis to ensure models are rigorous and production-ready.
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable code in C++ and Python, as well as JavaScript and React for front-end tooling, maintaining strong software engineering standards throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Partner with Traders, Sales, and Structurers to translate complex business requirements into tailored quantitative solutions that directly support trading decisions and client activity.
  • Engage with Model Risk Management, Market Risk, Credit Risk, Legal, Compliance, and Audit teams to ensure models are well-governed, fully documented, and meet regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's analytical frameworks, identifying opportunities to refine existing models and develop new approaches as market dynamics evolve.
