About The Position

The Quality Welding Inspector - Low Side is responsible for inspecting product processes and workmanship at various stages of production to ensure they meet quality standards. This includes examining products for defects or deviations from specifications, using tools like calipers, gauges, or micrometers for measurements, and performing final inspections before units are released for shipment. The role also involves testing linear tools, monitoring operations to ensure they meet production standards, accepting or rejecting product processes and workmanship, and reporting inspection results for continuous improvement. The inspector will also cross-train with other inspectors and may perform other duties as designated.

  • Experience with troubleshooting fabrication components.
  • Understanding and proper use of tape measure within 1/32”
  • Must be able to use overhead crane
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Basic shop math (i.e. add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
  • Must be able to read Production Orders & understand shop drawings
  • Familiar with common hand and power tools
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must meet all quality and quantity standards of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Welding experience is preferred
  • Have an understanding of B31.5 fundamentals.
  • Have an understanding of B31.5 & CRN requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting product processes and workmanship at various stages of production to ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Examining products for defects or deviations from specifications, and using tools like calipers, gauges, or micrometers to measure products.
  • Performing final inspection as well as routine inspections on all sections before units are released for shipment.
  • Ensuring that the certified print and production order agree.
  • Verifying that sections are assembled properly according to Engineering specifications.
  • Confirming all standard parts are in place or with sections.
  • Confirming all special parts are correct and with section.
  • Reporting all rework requested to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Inspecting, logging, and testing components and equipment used by EVAPCO mechanics and welders.
  • Monitoring operations to ensure they meet production standards, which may include reading production prints, EVAPCO controlled documents, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Accepting or rejecting finished product items, production processes, and workmanship.
  • Reporting products and workmanship that do not meet production and quality standards.
  • Reporting inspection results with the production and quality team to contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Cross-training with other inspectors at Evapco West.
  • Performing visual in-process and final examination in accordance with B31.5 code, including joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, and appearance of finished joints and welds.
  • Handling the return of damaged units or sections by generating a written report, taking pictures if required, and turning them over to the appropriate Leader and Superintendent.
  • Handling the return and analysis of damaged/failed parts and coordinating the return with Purchasing.
  • Assuming all responsibilities associated with certified units (B31.5 Code/CRN, etc.) including witnessing/signing off procedures requiring QC Holds, ensuring all required paperwork is completed by the appropriate personnel at the time it is being performed, and filing and storing paperwork properly.
  • Assisting with the training of new and current welders.
  • Participating in team and shop business problem-solving activities that include quality, safety, scrap reduction, and process improvements.
  • Meeting or exceeding annual safety, quality, 5-S, and productivity targets.
  • Attending training courses as directed by management.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Reading and understanding circuit drawings, certified prints, Engineering drawings, Production orders, and shop drawings.
