This role involves interpreting test plans and conducting complex engineering testing with no direct supervision. The technician will read and understand shop floor paperwork, hook up, start, and run chillers to determine if they meet performance requirements. They will use selection programs and Factory Talk to gather data and evaluate chiller performance, identify, troubleshoot, fix, and document improperly operating chillers & test loops. Additionally, the role requires performing TPM’s on all run stand systems, reporting suspect sensors or controls, maintaining a safe work area, using and maintaining hand tools, and training others on Engineering Test Technician duties. Interaction with customers/agency representatives in a positive and professional manner is also expected.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of electrical laws and the ability to read wiring diagrams.
  • Basic understanding of refrigeration, thermodynamics, and fluids.
  • Good communication skills and customer first attitude.
  • Willingness to share information and coach others.
  • Good manual dexterity and experience with hand tools.
  • Familiarity with computers and Windows operating environment.
  • Demonstrated initiative to seek work area improvement/personal development opportunities when not testing.
  • Must be willing to work all shifts and flex to satisfy customer demand.
  • Some overtime may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant 2-year technical degree preferred; however, relevant experience may be substituted for educational preference.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret test plans and conduct complex engineering testing with no direct supervision.
  • Read and understand shop floor paperwork including SEI’s.
  • Hook up, start and run chillers.
  • Determine if chiller meets performance requirements.
  • Use selection programs to determine fouling compensations, Trane Techview/Tracer TU, and the Factory Talk to gather data and evaluate chiller performance.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, fix and document improperly operating chillers & test loop.
  • Interact with customers/agency representatives in a positive and professional manner.
  • Perform TPM’s on all run stand systems.
  • Report any suspect sensors or controls.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area.
  • Use and maintain a variety of hand tools.
  • Train others on Engineering Test Technician duties.
