About The Position

This is an hourly position in Manteno, IL that reports to the QC Supervisor. The role is responsible for conducting temperature readings for all finished products prior to shipments, maintaining organized files of results for later reference. The technician will also be responsible for inserting temperature recorders in finished product shipments, downloading data when recorders are received, and maintaining a log for records. Additionally, the role involves assisting Quality Technicians in product evaluation, analytical tests of batches, weight monitoring, and ensuring all specifications are met. This position works closely with other QC Technicians, Receiving, Shipping, and Customer Service teams.

Requirements

  • Degree or Technical background in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, etc. or equivalent work experience.
  • Competence in math & analytical calculations.
  • Good organization skills & detailed reporting skills.
  • Good communication & interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work flexible hours occasionally for inspections, overtime as necessary depending on shipping schedules.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in food manufacturing environment is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting temperature readings for all finished products prior to shipments.
  • Maintaining organized files of temperature results for later reference.
  • Inserting temperature recorders in finished product shipments.
  • Downloading data from temperature recorders when they are received.
  • Maintaining a log for temperature recorder records.
  • Assisting Quality Technicians in product evaluation.
  • Assisting in analytical tests of batches.
  • Assisting in weight monitoring.
  • Ensuring that all specifications are met.
  • Thermometer calibration & documentation of results.
  • Checking product temperatures based on Daily Aging Report.
  • Checking product temperatures following a list of products per shipment schedule.
  • Providing temperature readings to Customer Service & Shipping teams to ensure customer temperature requirements are met before delivery; obtaining CDA on non-compliant items prior to delivery.
  • Inserting Pak Sense temperature recorders for shipments to various customers as per QC Supervisor instruction /schedule.
  • Retrieving Pak Sense temperature recorders from trailers, downloading data, & putting them back on the trailers until the recorder is fully utilized.
  • Downloading Pak Sense temperature recorders to generate Pak Sense reports for QC Supervisor review & to publish interpretation of results.
  • Ensuring QC retains in the cooler area are maintained in an orderly manner, and expired products (> 7 mos.) are disposed of regularly by coordinating with the warehouse.
  • Attaching MRB & SSR tags on finished non-compliant products, WIPs, or raw materials.
  • Removing MRB tags on non-compliant products that have been released & are put back to QOH status.
  • Maintaining a sufficient supply of Pak Sense recorders & pre-paid return envelopes for temperature recorders to be sent with products to various customers.
  • Maintaining records of temperature readings, including the temperature recorder log.
  • Assisting QC Technicians on product testing when temperature check duties are completed.
  • Assisting in QC lab maintenance, keeping the lab in an orderly manner.
  • Assisting QC Supervisor or R&D Supervisor with retrieving retain samples during product complaints investigation or shelf-life extension events.
  • Assisting with retrieving samples from WIP Totes containing non-conforming batches or expired products for further evaluation or dispositions.
  • Assisting with collecting finished product samples from returns (RA) for evaluation; assisting in the inspection.
  • Responsible for incoming raw materials & packaging material inspection, following critical raw materials inspection SOP.
  • Assisting in completing COA & other document filings.
  • Performing weekly inspections of raw materials & finished products in various coolers; paying attention to thawed raw materials that may have passed shelf-life & need samples for evaluation.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
