About The Position

This position involves working in a self-directed team environment to provide support to the product test (PT Lab) teams. The primary responsibility of an individual working in this position is to conduct functional performance tests of molded plastic closure systems, and to then summarize and prepare written reports of the test results. The testing is accomplished through the use of mechanical tools and test equipment, as well as, manual manipulation of the closure systems. The test evaluation data is collected and entered into a PC Spreadsheet software is used to organize, analyze, and report the data.

Requirements

  • Quality Technician or Inspector background.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Blueprint reading and layout.
  • Operation of inspection and test equipment.
  • Computer literate in a Windows environment.
  • Familiar with tests and procedures in the lab.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Flexible schedule - overtime and travel may be required.
  • Must be able to stand for periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and handle 50 lb. cases of product in a production-like environment.
  • Must be able to conduct repetitive manual operation of package closure systems.
  • Mechanical skills to be able to set up, operate, and troubleshoot both sampling and test equipment.
  • High School.

  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment by employing 5s philosophy.
  • Is trained in all applicable safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates assignments with other Lab Team members.
  • References master list of equipment used and tests performed.
  • Performs inspections and/or conducts performance tests as requested in compliance with lab test methods.
  • Verifies that the equipment to be used is in calibration.
  • Inputs collected data into a PC.
  • Summarizes test results, including statistical calculations, and reports findings.
  • Archives the CR when a request is completed.
  • Audits the results of other technicians (peer review).
  • Helps develop new test methods, or extend existing methods to new applications.
  • Helps write work instructions and test methods.
  • Assists in performing gage R & R studies.
  • May be assigned the role of "local expert" on certain technologies.
  • Participates in PT team meetings as appropriate.
  • Maintains individual training records.
  • Works as a self-directed lab team member.
  • Participates in lab problem solving efforts.
  • Assists in maintaining ISO/SQF quality system.
  • Monitors the environmental and process control systems as assigned.
  • Train new Lab Technicians.
  • Is available to work overtime when necessary.
  • Can occasionally be asked to travel to customer plants and our manufacturing plants to assist with inspections and/or testing when required.
  • Assists with equipment calibration and maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Helps monitor the perishable supply inventory.
  • Provides backup as needed in the absence of the other Lab Technicians.
