About The Position

The Quality Technician is responsible for monitoring product and process quality at various stages including receiving, manufacturing, inventory, and shipping. This role involves verifying that product and process characteristics meet established quality control specifications and procedures. The technician will record data, use measuring devices to ensure product conformance, and initiate containment procedures for non-conforming materials. They will also control or re-work processes, maintain a clean and organized work area, and review photos for customer claims. Effective communication between shifts regarding quality issues is crucial, as is assisting manufacturing personnel with troubleshooting. The role also includes training new inspectors and managing containment activities for dispositioned products.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in using measuring devices such as calipers, plug gauges, pin gauges, fixtures, and templates.
  • Ability to record data and process data accurately on prescribed forms and charts.
  • Skill in initiating and coordinating containment procedures for non-conforming materials.
  • Capability to control or re-work processes and ensure rework approval and performance.
  • Knowledge of 5S practices for maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Ability to review photos for comparison with customer claims.
  • Strong communication skills for shift-to-shift reporting of quality issues.
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting assistance skills.
  • Experience in maintaining trend charts and recording test data.
  • Ability to train newly assigned quality inspectors.
  • Understanding of product disposition requirements (sort, rework, rejection).
  • Ability to obtain shipping documents for part analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor product and/or process in receiving, manufacturing, inventory and shipping at prescribed intervals and frequency to verify product and/or process characteristics are in accordance with established quality control specifications and procedures.
  • Record data and process data on the prescribed forms and charts.
  • Use measuring devices to verify product conformance to specifications (measuring devices include, but are not limit to, calipers, plug gauges, pin gauges, fixtures, templates, visual aids, etc).
  • Initiate containment procedures and coordinate containment whenever questionable or defective material is encountered; ensure containments of all non-conforming products - properly identify status with tags and/or stickers, as procedure requires.
  • Control or re-work process; obtain/ensure rework approval prior to process beginning; ensure rework performance as per approved method.
  • Maintain work area, measuring devices and test equipment in a clean, safe and organized manner; promote 5S practices throughout the plant.
  • Review photos of finished parts taken at the time of completion for comparison of a customer's claim that product is not fully functional.
  • Assure effective communication from shift to shift regarding quality issues through the use of logs, quality documents, and verbal and other effective communication methods.
  • Offer suggestions and assist manufacturing personnel in trouble shooting and problem resolution whenever possible.
  • Maintain trend charts as needed, record test data results on forms, charts or control charts.
  • Training of newly assigned quality inspectors.
  • Ensure containment activities when product disposition requires sort, rework or rejection.
  • Obtain shipping documents for parts needed to be returned to the plant for analysis.
  • Other duties as assigned.
