Quality Technician - First Article Inspection

About The Position

The Quality Technician is responsible for performing and supporting First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102 requirements within an aerospace manufacturing environment. This role ensures that products meet all engineering, customer, and regulatory requirements through detailed inspection, documentation, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent (associate’s degree in a technical field preferred).
3+ years of experience in quality inspection within aerospace or precision manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications.
Proficiency with inspection tools and measurement equipment.
Experience with quality documentation and reporting systems.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and related software.
Familiarity with AS9100 quality management systems.
Knowledge of special processes (e.g., heat treat, plating, NDT).
Certification in quality inspection (e.g., CQI or equivalent) is a plus.
Experience working with ERP/MRP systems.

Responsibilities

Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) in compliance with AS9102 standards.
Review engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase orders to verify requirements.
Create and complete AS9102 Forms 1, 2, and 3 with accuracy and completeness.
Conduct dimensional and visual inspections using precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM, height gauges).
Validate material certifications, special processes, and test reports for compliance.
Identify and document nonconformances, support root cause and corrective action activities.
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
Maintain inspection records and ensure traceability of all FAI documentation.
Support internal and external audits as needed.
Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to quality processes and inspection efficiency.
