About The Position

The Quality Specialist is a hands-on shop-floor role on Starship, focused on MRB, FOD and tool control, measurement, and cleanliness. You will process non-conforming hardware from receipt through disposition and outbound flow. Additional responsibilities include training production on Issue Tickets and working with the Build Reliability Engineering (BRE) team.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted and to stand for extended periods
  • Flight hardware typically is built at height or in tight quarters, and physical dexterity is required
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small openings, and climbing hand over hand
  • Must be able to work all shift hours, overtime, and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to travel for short trips as needed
  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in an engineering, manufacturing, or quality field
  • Prior experience in quality, inspection, MRB, non-conformance processing, or manufacturing
  • FOD and tool control experience
  • Hands-on use of measurement tools and devices
  • Strong computer skills (laptops, iPads, cameras, and digital systems)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • High attention to detail
  • Comfortable working hands-on with hardware (painting, labeling, sticker removal, physical organization of parts)
  • Forklift experience (SpaceX will train and qualify)
  • Comfortable working with Engineering, senders, and material handlers
  • Can explain work with simple visual instructions (test plans, OP instructions, infographics)
  • Ability to read and interpret design drawings and CAD models
  • Experience with AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar QMS
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as root cause analysis, corrective action, and problem-solving methods

Responsibilities

  • Receive MRB hardware from Incoming, stage it on racks, and process it through MRB
  • Review Issue Tickets and rejection paperwork on receipt; get senders to fix bad info or wrong routing
  • Coordinate logistics with on-site and off-site teams for nonconforming material delivery
  • Get dispositions from Engineering (Repair, Use As Is, Scrap & Destroy, etc.)
  • Keep outgoing hardware moving to workcenters, other sites for rework, or scrap
  • Process hardware with laptops, cameras, and iPads; paint, tag, remove stickers, and apply scrap markings
  • Keep documentation and tracking accurate; audit Issue Tickets for rationale, deviation docs, and disposition verification
  • Help quarantine suspect product and update production leadership on containment and disposition status
  • Implement and audit FOD and tool control
  • Use measurement tools and devices for inspection and verification
  • Support cleanliness inspectors on criteria, measurement, and documentation
  • Write simple visual instructions when needed (test plans, OP instructions, infographics)
  • Train production on Issue Tickets, documentation, and repeat failures/escapes
  • Work with the BRE team on quality issues and inspection methods
