About The Position

Dynamet Incorporated's Washington, PA facility, a leading domestic and international supplier of titanium alloy products, is seeking a Quality Specialist. Acquired by Carpenter in 1997, Dynamet supplies titanium bar, wire, fine wire, strip, and precision shapes for various industries including aerospace, medical, consumer, motorsports, and recreation. The company is committed to offering excellence and innovation in the manufacture of titanium and other specialty metal products, ensuring strict quality controls through its testing and analysis laboratory. Dynamet is a member of Carpenter’s Performance Engineered Products division and maintains a second manufacturing facility in Florida.

Requirements

High School Diploma Required
Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
Practical understanding of engineering principles, standards, methods, and practices.
Knowledge of disciplined problem-solving methods.
Solves a range of problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions and assesses each using standard procedures.
Responds to non-standard requests from customers; investigates with assistance from others as needed.
Works with moderate guidance in own area of knowledge.
Ability to participate in or facilitate cross-functional teams to resolve white space issues.
Problem solving skills to include check sheet, Pareto diagram, cause-and-effect diagram, graphs, control charts, histogram and scatter diagram.
Ability to apply continuous improvement methods, such as Practical Problem Solving (PPS), Six Sigma, Lean principles and Error Proofing as team participant or facilitator.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
Ability to perform independent work on straightforward assignments with coaching by higher level engineer, supervisor or manager on more complex assignments.
Ability to work in a production environment.
Ability to operate a computer workstation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Design skills and basic project management skills.

Responsibilities

Recommend improvements in process and product Quality at Carpenter to increase First Time Through (FTT).
Provide support in the establishment of Critical to Quality measures (CTQ), Key Process Characteristics (KPC), Key Control Characteristics (KCC), control plans and FMEA.
Increase customer satisfaction by reducing claims, remakes, scrap and deviations from standard work.
Identify and recommend improvements in critical work center Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
Effectively detect and solve standard quality issues to prevent recurrence using appropriate quality strategies, tools, and techniques with assistance of higher-level Quality Specialists.
Stabilize processes and implement statistical process controls (SPC) to establish and maintain process capability using statistical methods.
Apply inspection, measurement and sampling methods and participates in method improvements (MSA).
Participates as an active team member in developing robust processes as part of the New Product Introduction (NPI).
Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.
