About The Position

Timberline Construction Group is seeking an early-career Quality & Safety Project Engineer to support our Civil Division on underground utility and site preparation projects. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or someone approximately 1-3 years out of school with relevant internship, co-op, field, or early-career construction experience. The position combines quality control, safety compliance, project documentation, and hands-on field support while working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, crews, subcontractors, clients, and inspectors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Recent graduate or approximately 1-3 years out of school; relevant internship, co-op, field, or construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to heavy civil construction, underground utilities, excavation, site preparation, or infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Ability to read construction plans and technical specifications with strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HCSS, Unanet, or similar construction software is a plus.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the Birmingham, Alabama area.
  • Must be willing and able to travel approximately 90% of the time, including extended project assignments and overnight travel.

  • Exposure to heavy civil construction, underground utilities, excavation, site preparation, or infrastructure projects is a plus.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, HCSS, Unanet, or similar construction software is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support project-specific quality control plans and perform field inspections to verify compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and standards.
  • Coordinate material submittals, testing, inspections, and documentation for water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related site work.
  • Assist with jobsite safety audits, Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), toolbox talks, OSHA compliance, near-miss tracking, and corrective actions.
  • Assist Project Managers with RFIs, change orders, daily reports, purchase requisitions, project records, and as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, clients, and internal teams to resolve quality, safety, or field concerns.
  • Review daily reports and timecards for accuracy of labor hours, quantities, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist with weekly project updates, bid proposals, cost projections, project cost reports, and Work Performance Reports (WPRs).
  • Help monitor subcontractor and vendor performance while gaining hands-on exposure to scheduling, cost management, and project closeout.
