About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining in-process specifications and controls, determining the sequence of operations based on work instructions, and performing various inspections to ensure product compliance. The technician will operate laser test equipment, record and analyze performance data, and document non-conforming conditions. They will also monitor manufacturing processes, assist in root cause analysis, and support engineering in developing new processes and documentation. The position requires active participation in a collaborative team environment and adherence to all safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience working in an advanced manufacturing field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience using a variety of laser wavelengths for testing crystals.
  • Previous experience in quality control required, optical environment preferred.
  • Previous experience operating precision hand tools such as micrometers and calipers preferred.
  • MUST have good manual dexterity skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • MUST have good visual acuity to spot defects, read computer screens, and hardcopy documents.
  • Candidate must be able to perform frequent and sustained standing, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Need to be able to operate and use microscope and computer.
  • Understanding of basic shop math such as ratios, graphs, algebra, and basic geometry.
  • Required to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-process specifications and controls and determines sequence of operations based on work instructions.
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of products, optical assemblies, and components to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Inspect machined, coated, and polished optical components, fabricated parts, using precision measurement tools, and visual inspection techniques.
  • Accurately record inspection and test results, maintain quality records, and document nonconforming conditions once laser testing was performed on crystals.
  • Operate laser test equipment, power meters, beam profilers, interferometers, and other metrology tools to collect and analyze performance data.
  • Follow all safety procedures for laser operation, optical handling, cleanroom practices, and manufacturing environments.
  • Read technical prints and understand specifications.
  • Measure part dimensions using various tools including micrometers and height gauges.
  • Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical components for accuracy and quality (x-ray goniometers, interferometers, autocollimators, comparators, height gauges, calipers, piezometer, surface profiler, etc.).
  • Ensures data is correctly entered into Cumulus (MES).
  • Assist with analysis of failure modes for root cause development.
  • Monitors manufacturing processes and works with engineering to evaluate and implement process improvements.
  • Generates Non-Conformance Reports and disposition non-viable parts.
  • May build or modify equipment used to test precision optics and lead others in their use.
  • Support engineering group with developing new processes and writing WI for these.
  • Actively participate in building a collaborative and productive team environment.
  • Other tasks as required by business operations.
