About The Position

This internship provides students with hands-on exposure to the full spectrum of quality assurance within a major steel producer. Interns will support established quality programs, engage in metallurgical testing, strip inspections, and root cause analysis. The role involves active participation in customer and external audits, problem-solving alongside experienced engineers, and contributions to continuous improvement initiatives. Interns will gain comprehensive, industry-level experience that prepares them for future engineering and quality leadership roles.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following fields: Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering/Industrial Engineering, Quality Engineering.
Preferred GPA of 2.7 or higher.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.

Responsibilities

Support and maintain quality programs aligned with steel industry standards.
Assist in preparing, monitoring, and maintaining quality documents (PFMEAs, Control Plans, audit records).
Participate in internal, external, and customer audits; assist in documenting findings and corrective actions.
Work with team members to perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
Conduct sample testing on coils, including width, gauge, hardness, adherence, coating thickness, and tensile properties.
Support metallurgical and material property testing, including chemical coating analysis, zinc coating weights, and spectrometer testing.
Assist with review of non-conforming material and support disposition processes.
Gain exposure to outside processing order reviews, vendor agreements, and performance monitoring.
Contribute to strip inspection activities, data collection, and reporting of results.
Participate in special projects assigned by the Quality team to enhance system efficiency and continuous improvement.
