About The Position

This role involves inspecting and measuring parts using precision measuring equipment to ensure conformance to material specifications. The Quality Inspector will prepare and maintain quality verification documentation and perform non-destructive tests using visual inspection techniques (VT), Ultrasonic testing (UT), and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) to identify errors or defects. A key responsibility is interpreting and evaluating inspection results for welding fit-up and filler metal placement against applicable codes, standards, and specifications, including setting up and calibrating testing equipment. The position also oversees welder qualification tests and evaluates welder performance. The inspector will study and interpret technical documents to determine conformance requirements and communicate with various stakeholders including supervisors, engineers, customers, and compliance agencies regarding quality and customer-related issues. Adherence to company policies, quality programs, and safety/environmental regulations is required. Overtime is expected to meet production goals, and other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of industrial processes and traditional quality control methodologies.
  • Intermediate knowledge with computer software to include, but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Entry level customer service skills in managing difficult client, vendor, audit agencies or customer situations by responding promptly to requests.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Good organizational and planning skills in order to prioritize and plan work activities efficiently.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current Certification as AWS-CWI

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and measures parts using precision measuring equipment to determine conformance to material specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain quality verification documentation.
  • Use visual inspection techniques (VT) as well as Ultrasonic testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) to perform non-destructive tests to identify errors or defects in product.
  • Interpret and evaluate inspection results for welding fit-up and filler metal placement with respect to applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Set up and calibrate all testing equipment.
  • Oversee welder qualification tests and evaluate welder performance.
  • Study and interpret sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of parts to determine conformance requirements.
  • Communicate with supervisor, engineers, production control, sales, customers, compliance agencies and other shop personnel for quality and customer related issues.
  • Adhere and comply with state and federal law, the Company ISO Quality Program and procedures, Company policies and Safety and Environmental Regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
