About The Position

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world. This role will operate advanced metrology equipment to ensure product conformance for highly-complex aerospace grade hardware. The Quality Inspector will perform Receiving Inspection activity using sampling plans and metrology equipment, such as CMMs, Romer Arms, micrometers, calipers, height gages, calipers, micrometers, gages, etc. They will report nonconformances when defective material is found, develop and lead 5S activities around the Quality area(s) to ensure efficient working areas, and read Inspection Plans and Work Instructions to perform quality inspections. The role requires interpreting engineering blueprints and drawings to the ASME Y14.5 standard to GD&T, performing Critical in-process and final inspections for assembled product, and completing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) to the requirements of AS9102. Additionally, the inspector will develop Standard Operator Procedures (SOPs) for other inspectors and train new inspectors on the correct usage of equipment and day-to-day responsibilities. The estimated shift times are Monday-Friday: 7am-4pm.

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Passport and must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
  • Must be able to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks.
  • 1+ years of quality assurance engineering experience.
  • Willing to travel to French Guiana for 10-25% of the time.

  • Familiar with Metrologic and/or PCDMIS inspection software
  • Familiar with automated inspection equipment, including Romer arms, comparators, CMMs, and other metrology software based inspection methods.
  • Comfortable reading sampling tables to ANSI/ASQ ZI.4 for established AQL levels.
  • Has led inspection teams before, and can run daily 5S activities in quality areas.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Critical in-process and final inspections for assembled product.
  • Complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) to the requirements of AS9102.
  • Develop Standard Operator Procedures (SOPs) for other inspectors to follow for day-to-day tasks.
  • Train new inspectors on the correct usage of equipment and day to day responsibilities.
  • Execute inspection plans for a wide variety of hardware, utilizing a wide range of equipment.
  • Perform and complete FAIs to AS9102 and present package to engineering for sign off.
  • Inspect and buy off rework/repair activities.
  • Investigate hardware for defects, and create nonconformance reports for discrepant hardware.
  • Perform In-Process and Final inspections for assembly processes.
  • Coordinate with quality, manufacturing, and engineering to understand and inspect part requirements, and report defects.
