About The Position

The Quality Inspector is responsible for approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products by confirming specifications through visual and measurement tests. This role involves rejecting and returning unacceptable materials, communicating necessary adjustments to production supervisors, and ensuring re-work meets standards. The inspector will also maintain measurement equipment, files, and documentation, perform various tests including mechanical pull tests and hardness checks, and input data into the quality database. The position requires working independently and as part of a team, assisting other personnel, and reporting any equipment or other problems to the supervisor. Safety is paramount, requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean workstation, and complying with all safety policies and procedures. The role also involves accepting feedback to ensure products meet safety standards and completing special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Able to read and understand inspection tools. (Micrometers, calipers, comparator).
  • Able to use Webster Hardness Tester.
  • HS Diploma/GED
  • Must also pass a skills-based test.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work efficiently and effectively; self-motivated; self-starter.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be conscientious, diplomatic, and detail-oriented.
  • Must pass a company background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Perform Mechanical (Pull) tests on the Tensile Machine and report findings to the Customer when requested.
  • Maintain all Quality Assurance tools.
  • Verify that all inspection tools are calibrated and functioning properly.
  • Perform Quality Audits for receiving in-process and outgoing material.
  • Review Inspection Reports to ensure the accuracy of information.
  • Understand and coordinate the operation of the optical comparator.
  • Assist the Extrusion Department in quality inspections when required.

Responsibilities

  • Approves incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Approves in-process (Fabrication) production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approves finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Keeps measurement equipment operating by following operating instructions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintain files in the Quality Assurance Department.
  • Performs Mechanical Pull tests. Understand and coordinate operation of optical comparator.
  • Maintains Die and Fabrication Print files within the quality office.
  • Performs hardness & length measurement checks per SOI 82-05-01.
  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
  • Any additional quality-related information that may be required in the performance of inspection.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Assist other personnel and perform other duties as required per supervisor.
  • Inform the Supervisor of any equipment problems or any other problems.
  • Work in a safe manner always wearing all required Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain a clean, clutter-free workstation.
  • Able to participate in a collaborative environment.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures.
  • Accepts feedback from the Team Leader to ensure the bundles meet safety standards.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
