This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Blue Origin is seeking a skilled Quality Inspector with expertise in Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) operations & Laser Radar (LR) to join our dynamic team. The Quality Inspector will be responsible for performing detailed inspections of manufactured parts and components to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to team efforts. C-Shift (Fri – Sun; 5am – 5pm)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify discrepancies, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and resolve inspection-related issues.
  • Effective communication skills to clearly convey inspection results and findings.
  • Organizational skills to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Must pass a standard background check.
  • May require a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) background check if at any time the role requires one to be on a military installation.
  • If driving Commercial Motor Vehicles, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification, Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing, vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements, and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical.

Nice To Haves

  • CMM Certification demonstrating competency in operating and programming CMMs.
  • Software competency, experience with industry-standard 3D inspection and processing software.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize the CMM to conduct precise measurements of parts, ensuring adherence to dimensional tolerances and specifications.
  • Experience in operating Nikon LRs with the ability to adjust measurement parameters and set up locations to measure highly reflective parts. Multi-instrument surveys include USMN, datum alignments and analysis to CAD, and setting up measurement and reporting templates inside spatial analyzer.
  • Create, modify, and optimize CMM inspection programs using software such as PC-DMIS or Calypso.
  • Understand and apply engineering drawings, specifications, and other documentation to guide inspection procedures.
  • Conduct dimensional and visual inspections of manufactured parts using the CMM and other measuring tools as necessary.
  • Record inspection data, document findings, and prepare reports to track quality and identify potential issues.
  • Identify defects and communicate issues to relevant personnel.
  • Contribute to overall quality control efforts by verifying that manufactured parts meet specified standards.
  • Perform inspections per drawing and work order requirements and document non-conformances.
  • Understand practical applications of different inspection types and methodologies.
  • Have significant awareness of interfaces between hardware inspections and the rest of the Quality organization.
  • Troubleshoot inspection issues.
  • Participate in the development of inspection optimization projects.
  • Work within a team but independently perform inspections.
