About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a Quality Tech II- 2nd Shift for the Fullerton, CA site. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment. This position is involved directly in the inspection of product after final processing. This position procures samples for dimensional inspection of aerospace parts to ensure conformity to customer drawing requirements. This position requires review of the customer drawing, measurement of the part using various types of calibration gages such as a micrometer, caliper, comparator, Keyence IM, drop gage, height gage, Go/No-Go gages, etc. Use of precision inspection tools and equipment, ability to read blueprints and procedures are required in the daily activities to ensure acceptance of product to specifications and requirements. Involvement in other inspections, such as, but not limited to, creating non-conforming material reports, receiving inspection and 3rd party certificate of conformance review.

Requirements

  • 2+ years related quality experience or training in accordance with the defined skills training matrix progression, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in a Quality Inspector role.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, operation, and troubleshooting of CNC controlled machine tools to perform any sequence of programmed operation using programs and tool layouts provided.
  • Procure samples for dimensional inspection of aerospace parts to ensure conformity to customer drawing requirements.
  • Review customer drawings and measure parts using various calibration gages (micrometer, caliper, comparator, Keyence IM, drop gage, height gage, Go/No-Go gages, etc.).
  • Use precision inspection tools and equipment, read blueprints and procedures to ensure product acceptance to specifications and requirements.
  • Create non-conforming material reports.
  • Perform receiving inspections.
  • Review 3rd party certificates of conformance.
  • Perform appropriate sampling plan per customer requirements.
  • Perform dimensional inspection and acceptance.
  • Perform visual inspection and acceptance.
  • Perform receiving inspection and acceptance.
  • Review of 3rd party certification of compliance documentation.
  • Support Quality in the recall of gages and tools.
  • Review of Manufacturing Router.
  • Prepare quality documentation including dimensional inspection reports and logbooks for product acceptance.
  • Prepare non-conformance reports for Quality and Engineering evaluation.
  • Use hand tooling such as micrometers, microscopes, calipers, and thread gages.
  • Use sampling plans, drawings, work instructions, industry standards, and specifications to verify conformance of product acceptance.
  • Perform other duties and/or responsibilities as part of cross-training or employee development plan.
  • Basic computer skills for entering and accessing databases and spreadsheets.
